One pigeon doesn´t make a spring… or what was the saying again?

Anyway, for those of you, who still don´t feel like they´ve had enough of winter, today´s recommendation is grabbing your friends and colleagues and off to Tiergarten you go. Up to now the ice hasn´t broken and Glühwein and curling at Neuer See make it easy to come to a peaceful end with the cold season. When sitting inside the ski gondola and feeling spring´s first sun rays fall through the sliding doors, life couldn´t better be.

… Unless, of course, you discover a heron spreading its beautiful large wings. It´s always worth keeping your eyes open when taking a walk through Tiergarten.

This month it´s time for our favourite holiday of the year again: International Women´s Day on 8 March! At 12:30 the big demonstration at Oranienplatz starts, organised by Verdi and others. At 12:00 you could join the Purple Ride at Mariannenplatz (app. 15-minutes-walk from Orania.Berlin), fighting for the rights of all FLINTA* by bike (FLINTA* = female, lesbian, inter, non-binary, trans and agender people). Here´s an overview of further demos and events to cheer up your activists´ souls.

Speaking of diversity, tolerance, defence of democracy: how beautiful it is we can still see that Berlin´s heart is a colourful one. We can make ourselves comfortable on one of the 25 new rainbow benches district authority Tempelhof-Schöneberg has installed a few months ago or just feel grateful for all the private initiatives pro diversity we can experience in the city. All of this clearly shows that the capital as well as the whole country seems to have awaken from its political slumber and is finally starting to rise against grey news and mediocre election results. That´s the spirit! Get up, stand up for your rights!

There is one venue that´s definitely linked to diversity we haven´t visited yet (shame on us): METROPOL at Nollendorfplatz. Its location in the rainbow-heart of Berlin as well as its eventful past as theatre, cinema and even home to legendary KitKat Club make it a place, where it matters who and not what we are. Nowadays its schedule is defined by hot parties and finest concerts – from Mumford & Sons to Mother´s Finest.

When it comes to finest concerts in March, we mustn´t forget MaerzMusik! The festival for new music of Berliner Festspiele guarantees fresh acoustic, cognitive and emotional experiences – usually in a slightly different style than METROPOL, though.

Should MaerzMusik´s programme be a little to experimental for your taste, there´s still enough to discover in Berlin´s cultural scene. Reneissancetheater in Charlottenburg is one of the places that often chooses to walk the more traditional paths of play production. But no matter what your taste in theatre is: this building is a must-see. Becoming a listed object made it possible for the art-déco building from the 1920s to be excellently preserved and restored with lots of love for details. The precious wooden wainscotings and golden curtains remind us of the Chinese theatre from Once Upon A Time In America. A truly unique architectural experience.

Has it been two years already? Wow! EMOP time it is again, then! The European Month of Photography Berlin helps us to understand what photographic art is capable of in more than 100 exhibitions. And it clearly shows why the medium photography currently seems to have the strongest impact on people.
Feeling like taking some pictures yourself now? No worries. We got you covered with motives - and never lack motivation.
