Sounds of the City - Vocal Edition

Jazz and Soul are urban music. Born in the streets of New Orleans, grown up in the clubs of Harlem, and continuing to be reinvented - in London and Paris, Lagos and Tokyo. In his concert program, Johannes von Ballestrem takes these cities as starting points. The Berlin-based pianist, a frequent guest on international stages, plays music that reflects the sound, rhythm, and history of urban life. Sounds of the City is his personal view of places where jazz is alive.

Irma Neumüller began her musical journey in the classical world when she started playing the cello at the age of four. After twelve years as a cellist and ten years at the respected music school Lilla Akademien, she opened her eyes to jazz and its singing tradition. Irma studied jazz vocals at Södra Latin’s high school in Stockholm and two years at the nationally renowned Skurup pre-college before moving to Berlin where she currently studies at the Jazz Institute Berlin. In recent years, Irma Neumüller has been successful on stages all over both Sweden and Germany. Her debut album "Introducing Irma Neumüller” was released on February 23, 2024 under the well-known and renowned Swedish label Naxos/Prophone. In the same year, Irma also received the Sandviken Big Band scholarship, and was invited to perform at the Radioeins Parkfest in Berlin. Since 2025 is she a scholarship holder of YEHUDI MENUHIN Live Music Now-Berlin e.V., and was accepted into the into the in Germany highly respected Bundesjazzorchester (BuJazzO). She was also awarded first place at the ”Gesobau Jazz & Soul Award 2025”
